Creating a collection of metal toys is not something new in the world. In fact during the 19th century, most toy makers found out that they could make toys that were cheaper and long lasting as compared to wooden toys. So came the notion of metal toys. Till World War 1, Germany was its main producer. Most of its items ran on clock work like trains and boats.

American manufacturers of metal toys started dominating the market out in the early 1920s. Soon Louis Marx and Company was quite renowned because of this business. After World War 2 was over, Japan started taking over the Industry. The Japanese focused in friction and wind-up toys. This was not done for a very long time as the electronic toys were soon introduced into the market and they were an instant hit.

During this era, Vintage Metal Toys collection came to be known as an actual hobby in the United States of America. A number of societies like Mechanical Bank Collectors of America and the American Train Collectors Association were formed which composed of collectors from all over the country coming on a certain forum or platform to discuss trade and even buy/sell Vintage Metal Toys.

All you need is a room to start off a collection of your own. That room can be your bedroom, garage, attic, basement or any place that can be used for storage. You can go through your old stuff or your parents stuff. You would be surprised with what you find out! And a word of advice, do not try to fix toys on your own. You might accidentally make the toy lose its value. Hire a restoration expert to do that kind of work. You can also put the broken toy up for sale as some people like to buy the original toy bearing in mind the notion that they toy is worth more in its original broken form, rather than its new repaired form.

Despite that, Vintage Metal Toys that are in excellent condition fetch much higher prices as compared to those who are not that well in condition. Toys which have not been taken out from their packing are considered a goldmine as they have never been used! So if you have the packing along with the, it is highly advised that you do not throw it away. It will help in making your toy more popular and higher in terms of price.

Lastly, it is preferable that you do not start collecting all toys, but you should decide a specific genre in which to collect. If cars interest you then collect them. If you are more interested in rail engines, then collect them. Whatever you collect, make sure you are passionate about it as it is only your passion that determines the value of the thing you have in your own eyes.
